The Haines Shoe House
THERE WAS AN OLD WOMAN WHO LIVED IN A SHOE. SHE HAD SO MANY CHILDREN SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO…
Built in 1949, the Haines Shoe House is currently located less than five miles from La Casa de Da-Vid. It was the creation of Mahlon Haines, who was locally known as “Haines: The Shoe Wizard.” In the late 1940s, Haines took one of his work boots and asked a local architect to create him a building that looked like the shoe. The house served as an iconic symbol of his business and remains open for ice cream and visitation to this day.
